The culture according to Brad Edwards has some what he calls “therapy speak” that is unhealthy. He says we currently have an intuition-based philosophy to our decision-making. And that we have learned a mantra or what he calls a catacism of internal care.

Intuitionism – My intuition and my eternal reality are the most reliable spiritual guides for navigating life’s challenges and understanding what is ultimately true, good, and beautiful.

Self-focused Mantra – Emotional safety and internal peace are the highest good and the most noble pursuits.

If we set our boundaries using these as our priority we will naturally endanger the proper and healthy sanctification of our souls. These are bi-products of a healthy relationship with the Father and citizenship in the Kingdom. But should not be our paradigm defining goals.

We should instead acknowledge the boundaries God has set for His family and described in His Word. Sometimes the Christian walk and living in community as we have been instructed to do involves upsetting our emotions and disturbing our inner peace.

“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” – Jas 1:2-4

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.” – 1Pe 5:8-10

“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” – Rom 8:18 KJV

We are told to expect suffering but God will use it to grow us and deepening our relationship and dependence on Him.
