Regardless of your situation it is God’s will for you to be full of gratitude. “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Th 5:18). Why? Because God is all about the truth. God is truth. If you feel that you have nothing to be thankful for then you are captive to a lie. The truth is that you have life abundant! You have a God that loves you so much that he made a way for you to be reconciled to him at great cost to himself. He did this because he is good. “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.”
So what do we do if we do not “feel” thankful?
Well Christianity is about living by principle not by feelings. In christianity feelings are subservient to our actions. God tells us to do and then the feeling will come. “Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks:for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” Prayer and Praise brings the feeling of gratitude. If you do not feel thankful then start praying and start praising God. Then the truth will be revealed and graditude will follow!
Many times what stands in our way of a proper attitude is selfishness. God reminds us that he has called us to a life of service based on a respect for Him. When we serve each other out of a respect to God then we can remain thankful in our submission and not bitter.
“Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.”
