Veritology

The definition of truth is that which conforms to reality and so the opposite of truth is not a lie but insanity or that which does not conform to reality. A lie then is a perversion of truth not the opposite of it. That is what is so evil and slippery about lies they are based on truth or perhaps a better way to say it is “a lie is corrupted truth”.

Teleology

There are two places in the bible where God tells us about the purpose  in Jesus coming. In John 18:37 Jesus says ” To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth.” and then in 1 John 3:8 the Holy Spirit tells us that Jesus was “manifested to destroy the works of the devil.” We know that the devil is the father of lies and his works are based on lies. So we can conclude that bearing witness to the truth destroys the works of lies.

Freeology (its not really a word, but don’t worry about that)

Jesus is truth and so if we believe His truth, that he is God and that he died and rose from the dead OR we believe a lie. Those are our only two options. The lie about lies is that they do not protect us but take us prisoner (2 Tim 2:25-26). But the good news is that the truth about truth is that even though we often fear being laid bear and exposed it is that very honesty that frees us (John 8:32).

And if the Son of God sets you free? Then you are free indeed!
